Drowsee and Hypno make sense under the general guise of trickery and the aforementioned poison gas. Beyond that, no, there are a ton of poison types in Gen 1 and nearly all of them could be wrangled into Koga's shtick.

I remember clearly the dialogue 'poison and sleep techniques'. Kadabra learns neither of those (aside from Toxic, which nearly every Pokemon learns), but the Kadabra NPCs don't use it.

Either an oversight (I buy into the whole 'Koga and Sabrina swapped Gyms and badges' theory) or could be deliberate - you've been fighting hordes of Poison types from Rocket Grunts, and the typing is pretty shit defensively (and not great offensively) so why not shake things up for a late-stage gym

That makes sense... sort of. Sabrina of all people has poison gym trainers (the channelers) but also, the psychics use exclusively psychic pokemon (none of them use the Drowzee line, strangely enough), as their name might suggest.

It's likely this. Team Rocket's various hideouts basically serve as poison-type gyms, so Koga having more psychic-types helps make things feel a little less monotonous while still fitting into his whole status effect spam thing

they really should have dropped the whole type alignment for gyms and go by themes instead. For instance, Blaine, being a scientist, would have a team made up of Porygon, Magneton, Muk and Aerodactyl.

Probably you mean the names only. Soul badge being a heart makes sense but Sabrina should give it to you, not Koga. That still leaves Marsh badge being a coin, which makes no sense.

For all you people talking about the Earth Badge being a Fern. Your using art from the anime and later releases which indeed did retcon it into some kind of Fern/Leaf/Grass thing. But the actual sprite of the badge from Red and Blue is a Feather. This comes from how originally Viridian Gym was the first gym and you'd fight it's leader (who wasn't Giovanni) who used what was at the time "Bird-Type" that later got merged with the "Flying-Type" (Which was for Dragons and similar stuff, hence Gen 1 having several Dragons but their all Flying-Type instead of Dragon-Type). The Viridian Gym leaders sprite was some kid in a t-shirt and shorts, but his sprite was heavily edited to make Giovanni's, hence the confusion over Giovanni being a flying type user.

What the hell was GameFreak thinking with Poison in Gen1? There isn't a single Pokemon weak to it. The only type weak to it at that point was Grass, and every Grass-Type was part poison so it would only be neutral. And to rub salt in the wound, in Gen 1 Bug was super-effective against Poison, so even shitmons and all the Zubats with Leech Life could clown on you. And like all the fighting moves were normal before Gen 2 changed them. so you're not resisting anything. It's a type that is purely a downside. It makes every Pokemon worse for having it.

Parasect and Exeggutor still have other types that prevent poison from being SE on them, legit forgot about Tangela though. So a grand total of a single Pokemon out of 150 that Poison hurts.

Fun fact: You know that glitch where if an NPC has a super effective effect attack, even if it's something like Agility being Psychic, it'll always use it? EVERY Pokemon in Erika's gym besides the Tangela has Poisonpowder and no other poison moves. If you bring Bulbasaur, Oddish, or Bellsprout into the gym, every single Pokemon will just spam poisonpowder because it sees you're a grass type but doesn't understand you're also immune to poison. Except Tangela. That one will usually only use constrict.

Helix Chamber made one back when the beta material was revealed, although it's full of glitches (There's a gamebreaking one at the very start that makes it impossible to get past Viridian unless you do things in exactly the right order. Reminds me - anyone play Yellow on virtual console? They lazily slapped purple over it through some kind of 3DS-specific hax, giving it more than 4 colors and making it stick out more than it ever would have if they just kept it the way it was. Actually I guess that's the opposite of lazy since it must have required special programming.

They could have even put 2 minutes of effort in and ported the GSC sprite since they're the same size/color restriction. It looks retarded.
