>>45557369It's because Digimon doesn't have "waves" of new monsters like Pokemon does, so the digital pets, games, TCG, and anime are all free to make up their own monsters separately. So when the anime decides to make a random crocodile mon as a monster of the week, any video game that wants to use it has to come up with where it fits on the evolution line. So they'll just stick it with something that sorta-kinda makes sense like making it digivolve from a reptile, a water monster, or just something with a lot of teeth.
