Like, how was the US team real. How hard was it to just translate and move on. No wonder we got such shitty designs from the first few gens marketing teams.

It was pretty common back in ye olde days to completely redo vidya artwork, in more extreme examples those changes would seep into the actual games. Easy to shit on it now but thats how it was

Pretty hard for Ishihara to know what the fuck was going on, when he wasn't involved with NoA's discussions with Game Freak to bring their game forward to the west, when he was still balls-deep in running Creatures Inc. at the time.
Zoomies (especially the ones like DYKG) forget Ishihara doesn't have any control over how Game Freak make their games.

You don't get it, desu.
We talk about times before anime boom happened worldwide. The trends were showing that things like TNMT, Thundercats, Motorbike Mice From Mars and similiar US Toyetic shows were making profit.
While now we know that translate team was completely wrong, they could not know that Pokemon will end as worldwide super phenomenon and experience showed that things that they were talking about sells.

Are you high? Granted, the director is more, well, directly involved. But the producer is also involved a lot. I could pick a lot of examples, but how about Shinji Mikami with Hideki Kamiya. Kamiya fucked up RE2 so bad they had to restart, but Mikami kept giving Kamiya projects until he stopped being a total fuckup.
