Not really. The thing is that while not excited to leave, Butterfree did not exactly have any problems with it either, which makes the whole thing not that sad.

Now the scene with Jesse's Dustox on the other hand showed that it really did not want to leave her and she did not really want it to leave, therefore having to force it against all that pain and tears it brought to her, punctuated by that moment where she destroyed its pokeball.
