Discord in particular has a voice call function as well which is a little more social interaction than simply chatting on 4chan, and, again, streamers do actively encourage people to join their Discord and organize community events to keep people engaged. For a real world analogy it's a bit like going to a bar to watch a sports match and meeting people, then organizing functions between yourselves.
You do lose the 'body language' bit, but regardless, compared to here, I think that anon's right. Here there's just way too much chaos and depravity and this can never be used as a substitute for social interaction, so we can't really criticize a system that encourages an inferior but still valid form of social interaction.
