Megas have lore significance in and outside its debut generation, alongside fulfilling a longtime wish for a "4th/additional evolution" to old Pokemon.
Z Moves also fill a longtime wish for Pokemon to have their own version of a limit break/mystic arte/etc, bit of a shame it had to be a region-specific gimmick, but that's the mindset Masuda wants to have now.
Dynamax really doesn't fulfill anything, it's just an attempt at a flashy selling point. It's one thing if it actually felt like a giant monster battle, with environmental destruction and flashy moves, but no.
