It's not a bad thing at all, it makes the games that much more enjoyable. The Cyber Sleuth games and DW Dawn/Dusk do this very well. It's more beneficial in Dawn/Dusk due to the way stats work, but both instances allow you to access a good chunk of the roster from just a few party members.

Pokemon is about sharing adventrures with a team, all with their unique personalities and stuff. digimon can morph into anything and they never have any personalities, hinted in the anime, very little is known, and when they evolve you don't feel attached because they never show any emotions in any advanced stages, only the rookie forms
