mystery dungeon games are shit and their only selling points are the endings (which are only notable because they're better than the shitty mainline standard for plots) and the osts (which aren't even that good on average, they just have a few really notable tracks that everybody remembers)
while i don't think it should've been killed off in the great subseries culling, i think people getting overly upset by the critic reviews are forgetting that not everything with the nostalgia brand is good (although give how much shit some critics talk i really can't blame people for dismissing them)

I rember the Explorers review from IGN, that guy basically complains the gameplay is too repetitive when in the main series you literally just mash A unlike in PMD where you gotta go inside dungeons well equipped and be wary of every room, while actually giving you an intriguing story to make you want to continue

In general Mystery Dungeon games don't score very well.

Journalists hate the games because "they're too hard".
As in "we can't mash A and run straight through with an overleveled starter and a bunch of low level shitmons".
I wouldn't ever pay attention to anything but User scores/reviews on that site, despite their bias, they do it for free and their opinions are actually educated.

They have to finish games as quickly as possible. That's why they dislike games like PMD where story progression isn't always immediate. I think the IGN reviewer of EoS only went up to Apple Woods.

It's because they literally didn't play far enough to notice any of the changes. They only played up to Apple Woods.

I own every game in that collage, and I haven't played more than 2 or 3 hours in any of them. They don't capture my attention the way mainline games do, and they're infinitely more tedious.

I will fully admit that a big weakness of the Mystery Dungeon series is that the dungeons themselves can be very tedious. Traversing 20 plus floors of randomly generated square rooms and hallways can get really tiresome, even if the story is engaging.
