Funny you say that, there's no games being made for me zoomer. See, I like old-school shit, DOOM Eternal's been the only game I gave a shit about playing outside Switch games for a long lock of years and that's because it went arcadey, decided to lean into what it started in 2016's reboot and went hard on the push-forward combat/combat chess elements and in all took 2016 and made more of what made it good in the first place.
And the other studios want drones, want people buying games-as-service and buying into the lootbox kulture and church of FOMO. Fuck that, I'll spend my money on games that deserve my money and only games that do what I want are the ones that do.

How? All it did was expand on Gen 5.
You can argue there were symptoms but the games themselves were still perfectly playable.
What about SM removing the National Dex? PSS? Super Training? Dungeons? Post-game hunts outside of the generic episodic plot?
Kalos actually had an identity beyond just KANTOOO like Alola and Galar kept going back to. It didn't repeat older Pokemon in routes as every location felt unique and different with new Pokemon always at the forefront.
Meanwhile the new ones are a rarity in everything that came after.

The sad truth is many of today's adults are unable to leave their childhoods behind and companies are all too happy to pander to that. You can see it in other companies like Disney and how they're making "serious" live-action remakes of their classics to appeal to adults who watched those movies as kids.

They're doing that as it's cheaper and safer to remake a property that's proven to be successful, than it is to make a wholly new IP and risk spuffing away the cost, because you didn't get the draw you wanted.

Every gen has its flaws, no pokemon game is perfect and it's undeniable that there have been objective improvements from gen to gen. The problem is that Gamefreaks is lagging behind the rest of the industry, and while the Pokemon games are slowly improving on a technical level they're just shit compared to actual games. Sword and Shield has some cute new features but holy shit, it's on the same console as so many games that shit on it in terms of quality.

He's right, though. Before SwSh was a thing (and even nowadays, honestly), the biggest whiners, the ones who couldn't stand dissenting opinions, who instead of arguing would start full-on screeching, who'd deflect, name call, etc. were Sinnohfetuses. It was (and is) honestly unbearable, not to mention that whenever there's a thread criticizing any other gen (no matter if the OP is blatantly baiting for genwars and not simply wanting to discuss) they get to stay up and reach 200+ replies, but whenever there's a thread criticizing DPPt they get almost immediately removed. This past week alone I've seen like 3 threads wanting to discuss Gen 4's flaws and they were nuked less than 10 replies in, it's insane.

I played it on Yuzu for free and honestly found them to be incredibly entertaining games despite their blatant flaws, genuinely the most fun I've had with Pokemon in the entire last decade. It's fine to not like Sword and Shield, I have 549 hours in and I can totally understand the designs not being appealing, raids not looking like fun (though I think they are), or the model of games as a service infecting its way into the series, but then there are lots of criticisms lobbed at the game because they just want to shit on it because their favorite franchise continues to get older, modernized, and appeals to a new demographic when those are not necessarily bad things.
Granted, any worst four gens contain at least one of gen 6, 7, or 8, no doubt, but in the name of fairness, you should have no problem accepting criticism of your favorite games if all you do all day is criticize SwSh.

Personally, I just expect more from the games. My favorite gen certainly isn't perfect, but you think that wow, I love my favorite gen, I can't wait to see how they improve on it. And in some ways they do improve, but they take a number of steps backwards as well. It gets old after a while. As a kid, I hoped Pokemon would become this amazing series with consistently better games, but at some point I was partially hoping for cut features to return. And after a while, you just realize the course they're stuck on.

I gave up with that thinking long ago. I ended up just playing gen 6 and 7 not expecting some big advancement, but skipped 8 because I just wasn't feeling it. Not him and I don't share the same opinion as I love all generations until SM, but XY had a lot of things going for them, such as the new 3D world, the best online experience so far, and basically, the entire dex being handed to you, among other things. XY had many flaws, yes, but they brought very fresh air back to the franchise, both for casuals and for more traditional players, which can hardly be said about Gen 5 whose new additions were more surface-level than anything, with Hidden Abilities probably the only major one which still exists.
