>>45582195>There's about as much to do in the wild areas as there is in Ocarina of Time's Hyrule field.I'd argue there's a lot more to do in OoT desu.
By technicality SwSh wins with sheer numbers due to how many Pokemon are available there, but all the wild area boils down to is three repetitive tasks. Walk up to Item and press A, fight/catch wild Pokemon and interact with an NPC/Dynamax Den. There's "a lot to do", but no real substance to it and the things you do in Hyrule Field are more varied in action to better take advantage of the game's mechanics. In a vacuum that's honestly fine, the Wild Area's main purpose SHOULD be having a bunch of Pokemon readily available to make for easy distribution and give the player a lot of options in want they can use because that's what Pokemon is about, using the critters you want to. Just like Hyrule Field's quests and secrets are mostly there for the purpose of making Link stronger/giving you more freedom, the Wild Area is there to help make your Pokemon stronger and give you more freedom.
The problem comes when there's not really anything to do past what is considered to be the bare minimum for a Pokemon game (arguably this game goes below the bare minimum thanks to >muh dexit), with the main game itself being so barebones and bland that you don't really get to take advantage of what the Wild Area has to offer.
