People can purely pin it down to the Switch, but DS had a much bigger install based. It’s absolutely a factor, but it’s also because SS is absolutely one of the best Pokémon games for normies.

the switch is very popular, pokemon is still very popular and /vp is a very insular community who doesn't seem to realise a lot of players actually did enjoy the game. I don't think anyone would call it their favourite pokemon title but normal people tend to think well of it and the online raid stuff especially in the DLC is quite enjoyable with friends.

I was thinking about something the other night. Isn't SwSh the game where you can CATCH the most Pokémon within the game itself? You can't bring all of them from past saves, but in terms of Regional Dex it's by far the biggest one no?

this is because almost everything you can catch is in regional dex nowadays
in older games you had a given amount of Pokemon in regional dex, then in postgame you could catch pokemon that weren't in regional dex

Base SwSh has a hefty pokedex of 400 mons, and with both DLCs that number jumps up to 584. Kalos actually surpasses base SwSh with 457 mons on the base dex, but with the DLCs Galar dwarfs it.

Yeah, in previous games you was able to transfer or trade anything you want but considering how shit GTS always was with it’s shit like "I want legendary for any shitmon" it was not that easy if you just don’t have previous games to transfer from...

it was sold at the very end of the ds' lifespan, which already had like 5 different mainline titles on it at that point. i remember one of the biggest criticisms surrounding gen 5 at the time of its release was that it wasn't developed for the 3ds, which came out only a few months after its release.
