Shit's tossed out right after. It's like in a videogame when an evil character changes sides and joins your team but they're significantly weaker as a party member than they were as a boss fight.
>It's functionally the same thing as Swellow using Guts and Pikachu being overchargedI wouldn't say it's functionally similar: Swellow isn't "shrugging it off" like it could do as a Taillow, it just flat out dons the electricity as golden armor somehow, despite having no way to absorb it. Similar situation for Pikachu- while it is shown to be able to absorb electricity many times, never before or after does it get this armor effect.
This is just some deus ex machina the writers shat out because they thought it would be epic and badass, forgetting that they're writing for Pokemon, lmao. They could've done some other kind of combo attack that didn't feel like an asspull but the writers tried way too hard to be cool.
