I think joe is right here, the interview does not really make it out that they're ignoring old fans, because old fans know what pokemon is and don't need to be considered in the same way. they're trying to appeal to a new generation of kids each time to keep their franchise truly relevant instead of being on life support
saying it's "maddening to old fans" is baseless and totally just trying to stoke up arguments
Lost some respect for this guy, I thought he did good work on fishing out these old interviews but now it seems like he has an agenda

What Joe is saying is true, but the issue is that Masuda takes this to the extreme, and focuses far more on the newer fans, than the established fandom that has aged with the series. On another level, this is kind of contradicting when he continually panders to Kanto fans. At this point in time, why do they even still pander to Kanto fans? I'm sure even they're bored of that shit at this point. I have yet to even see a Kanto fan say anything of the sort, like
>"Gee I can't wait for more Kanto love in the next set of games :^)"
They're just really out of touch with the fandom in general nowadays from what it feels like.

The problem is that you can totally appeal to a newer age group without insulting the older fan base. It truly is maddening to older fans (the ones who still have Stolkholm Syndrome, anywho), and it isn't baseless at all. If the dex cut wasn't the last straw for people, I don't know what will be.

Kanto fan = casual who grew up in the 90s, remembers the first season of the anime, maybe played one of the old gameboy games, will buy new games if there are enough people talking about them

GF panders to them because they make up the vast majority of the market. Hardcore autists like the ones on /vp/ are a vocal minority.
