I am 30+ and I say, my complains about new shit before were based on my personal hate for GF because of the trash battery of GSC saves, which killed my entire team and collection. But now, after playing RSE, FRLG, HGSS, DPPt and BW1, my hate comes from the stupid pieces of shit that they are. Still, HGSS is the best one for me now. I tried XY and some of SM, I haven't played more because I can't get into them and so far I don't like them.

For what the game had in SOULful graphics, it totally lacked in level scaling and new mons. The Johto dex is almost entirely carried by Kanto cross-evos or cross-evos from gen 4 and there are level 20 mons outside the final gym. Kanto is also a complete stomp and not fun due to the shit levels.
The mechanics are also still in the primitive days of Satoshi, so you can say goodbye to abilities, natures, EVs, or any functional items past leftovers. Not even HGSS could truly save it.

I love Emerald, but the ultimate Pokemon game for me would be a game with gen 3 graphics and engine that has Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn all in one.

no way. if the "extra content" everyone creams themselves about it all the annoying eusine bullshit, then no thanks. in crystal you have to catch all 3 legendary beasts to encounter ho-oh, and both ho-oh and lugia don't have their signature moves in crystal. plus gold has the best exclusives
