Also even if that was not the case, shit was not compatible with gen 3 anyway. maybe you were 7 when gen 3 started, otherwise I don't think you know what it was to turn on the gameboy and see no file one day. fuck you.

bro I started with RBY same as you, stop seething. The battery thing is a real shame, but I don't recall the thing wiping my save even after the battery died. Maybe I misremember though, all I do recall is time stopping years later. Either way, the vast majority of people skipped gens because they were ashamed of playing pokemon cause they thought they were too grown up for that now.

We don't know what the fuck GameFreak has planned since COVID's fucked over the whole franchise's release schedules.
For all we know we could get LGPE2 that isn't actually Let's Go Johto, but instead does a reversal with Johto as the post-league region and a completely new story.

The battery in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald was just for the clock. The ones in the Gen I and Gen II games were for the save file, and the Gen II batteries died faster because of the clock.
