They just make up a list of "symptoms" or find a list of "symptoms" online and identify with them all because they lack any real personality. They find communities based around those things and then compete to be the 'worst'. Being good at things is too hard for them, so they show off how bad they are. Alternately they just try to be cool to a group of losers. Either way, no one cares about them except people in their group.
