>>45619623I agree that many of them should have gotten regular evolutions instead, but mega evolutions had the whole advantage of changing abilities and types during battle, meaning some of the mega pokemon could actually fight in their normal form for quite some time and change depending on the situation.
Also Rhyperior shows, that getting evolutions isnt always the best thing that can happen to a pokemon
