Girafarig lost out hard too. We never rid find a front sprite for the prevo, but with evo data for a 3-stage line for it and the way the tail grows from a single ball to a while other head it's possible that this was going to be a line at some point between Spaceworld and the final.

I don't like that it's just... carrying wood.
I know pokemon are no stranger to using items like Alakazam with their spoons and the Timburr line.... But this just doesn't seem like pokemon behavior.

Compare it to Braixen.
Braixen uses it as a wand witch fits in with it's witchy theme, as well as using it as a focus point for it's fire attacks.

This mon is just running around with a burning fence on it's back.

The mon is based on a Japanese folk story about a Tanuki who gets it's back burned. Just make a legitimate enough lore to justify it and it should work. Like what I'd do is

I like the idea of the bonfire being more "accidental", to compliment it's origin and it's sprite. The tanuki's life is just sort of a greek tragedy, it constantly tries to build but it keeps setting things on fire.
