EV training is the worst aspect of Gen 3. I don't know who sat down and thought "ahh we should make it so that in order to have a strong Pokemon you need to figure out which Pokemon provide which EVs and then manually keep count as you repeatedly battle them 100+ times". And then in FRLG they even removed the reset berries so if you accidentally picked up some of the wrong EVs you permafucked your mon.

It wasn't until XY that they made this garbage bareable.

It doesn't matter when Gen 6 is still the only ones in the franchise that made EV training intuitive and inexpensive while also offering the fastest method to do so that has since been removed.

You still have to grind to buy them, your money resources are very easily depleted by clothes and even vitamin hording itself while the PokeJob method requires a time exploit and still ends up slower than Gen 6's way which was more engaging and actually felt rewarding to be able to easily train teams of Pokemon at once.

In Gen 3 if I want to use my bro I have to make sure to fight Pokemon that give speed and special attack EVs 125 times each or else I'll be getting shit on by stronger Pokemon. And thats only after I've already beaten the game and gotten the macho brace. Which comes with the downside of letting the enemies get first hit in on everything.

Gen 1 and 2 has stat exp which you cannot fuck up. You still had to grind to max it out, but you couldn't mess it up.

If that were the case then they wouldn't have left Stat EXP for the new system.
In context, the old version of EVs worked far better as a "game mechanic" because it ultimately boiled down to making people who trained their pokes against other ones instead of using rare candies or the daycare stronger.
The current system appeals to nobody BUT minmax autists because it caps itself and locks. I see no feasible function for this other than a very niche half-assed defense alongside the lines of (a Pokemon that trains against a bunch of fast Pokemon is faster!) which is bullshit because by that logic you should be able to still train that stat afterwards.
EVs are cancer, Gen 6 is the only game that actually made them feel like a welcome addition.

It always comes down to this. Just admit your bro is shit in comp even if properly EV trained and learn to like more than one Pokemon. Who is even playing the Gen 3 meta right now anyway?

That's no better than SM or SWSH's methods, though.
"Fast" or "Better" isn't good enough. The point is to make EVs feel like they actually belong and have a reason for being there.
They made the perfect solution and dropped it.

EV training is bad but the EV system is really good, allowing mons to be customized in ways outside of moves was a breakthrough for competitive play and stopped the "everything is way too bulky" stallfest that gens 1/2 turned into

Bro I agree with you. My only complaint is I wish Super Training was the ONLY way to get EVs, just like the only way to get bonus stats in Digmon Cyber Sleuth is with the DigiFarm.

Getting incidental EVs from battle still makes it annoying unless you want to EV train everything in one sitting.

EVs should be "Ability Points" or some equivalent that are gained along with EXP and can be invested into whatever stat you want upon levelup, like other RPGs. Maybe some Pokémon have shit EXP yields but give a lot of AP. Far more natural than "kill a bunch of shit way weaker than you for invisible points."
