Japan loves to milk their first entries of a franchise for nostalgia fans because zoomers don't give a fuck about those and like mobile games and fortnite instead

Tamers was still fairly succesful, the digimon from it are more popular than half of the adventure cast and still gets content every now and then, it got a drama CD recently. Also the writer is trying to pitch a sequel to toei.

No, it's rare for any franchise to not jerk off the first thing constantly. As a Transformers fan, it's rare to get anything that isn't G1 pandering. Ironically, the Mario and Zelda examples aren't really accurate, although there are more than a few callbacks to Donkey Kong and the first Zelda they really focus more on SMB and OoT (with a little LttP thrown in there, more if you consider the dominant gameplay styles of basically every game after it aside from BotW). Can you think of a western series that doesn't treat the first thing as some big deal? Going off of my Hasbro toy shilling marketing scheme knowledge, GI Joe seems to mostly go off the 80's show rather than the earlier stuff, and you know how much of a cancer MLP is. I don't know much about these, but Stars War and Stars Trek seem to go for their first part, even is people like the show with the bald guy better.

I'm not big on comic books, that's more my dad's area of expertise, but I know enough to say that early Flash and Green Lantern are definitely different than their modern interpretations. But with Batman I'm not certain. Yeah, obviously, the early stories are only referenced so much, but the character himself is basically the same. How many different tellings of the same origin story are there? That came around pretty early in the first run, right? I mean these days the 90's animated series seems to have a huge impact, but even before then there's an argument to be made the 60's show almost had as much of an impact.

This. Usually the first series/entry is the most popular with mainstream fans and that they are the ones who get pandered too. Normies only care about Adventure, hence why they also go back to it. It is no different then what Pokémon does with Gen 1. Normies don’t care about the other series, which is why they barely make references to them.

I watched Tamers as a kid, D-Reaper was definitely scary weird but cool at the same, it's not uncommon for children to find getting scared in media cool, there will always at least 2 or 3 kids with metalhead/geek parents who saw whatever "nightmare on Elm Street", "the ring" or "the exorcist" of the moment is in a classroom.

OG Kanto was never constrained by "muh 151" and "there can't be day/night, breeding, battle facilities, or connections to other regions!" Yet every single time we have a Kanto remake those are always the first things to go. Meanwhile every time they reference Kanto it's always the most tried, overdone, asspull that feels like it's a reference straight from Ready Player One with how out of place they are.
It's a disservice to Kanto proper whenever they do it just like Tri is a disservice to Adventures.

Trapped in a desert, being crucified for his crimes against the Digital World. The problem with 02 wasn't its "casualization" because at the very least it tried to tackle its own darker concepts, but rather the fact that the writers couldn't agree on what to do with the series so it ended up being a clusterfuck of ideas. This is why you weird shit got like incorporating elements and story from the Wonderswan games (which are a rabbit hole on their own) and then bringing up the Dark Ocean and doing nothing with it. Still more enjoyable than any Pokemon anime though

Digimon tamers are my favourite season of Digimon, and honestly, Nintendo knows they can keep selling anime toy bait shit, and it makes them more money. Remember when Pokemon tried to take a more "mature" take once and got destroyed by fans so hard that Masuda didn't wanna lead a game again. That's not what happened. In the fantasy, the crucified emperor persona is destroyed and everyone forgives him. But Wormmon appears to tell Ken that he needs to stop craving forgiveness, that what he did is forever part of his past and no forgiving will make it better and the best he can do is make a better future by learning from his mistakes, which lets Ken go back to reality.

I can see why. The original Youkai Watch was a fresh touch to the anime shows that are based on Pokemon-like franchises. Most anime of that kind pretty much use the Pokemon shonen anime formula (I wanna be the very best yada yada) while the original Youkai Watch anime is a hilarious, wacky comedy/slice of life with lots of soul. The later "mature and edgy" Youkai Watch anime are generic as hell.
