What was the point of scrapping this evolution for Farfetch'd? It had such a great design, I really don't get why they didn't want to keep it in. It's certainly better than the shit we got from Gen 8 with sirfetch'd or whatever it was called.

Yeah, we really were robbed with this one.

Nothing was robbed, because Kantonian Farfetch'd isn't the one that evolves into Sirfetch'd. Sirfetch'd was designed for Galarian Farfetch'd.

Unlikely as it is, it's still possible for Kantonian Farfetch'd to get its own evo like how Galarian Meowth and Yamask don't evolve into Persian or Cofagrigus, they evolve into Perrserker and Runerigus instead.

I would write it off completely; the only Pokemon to get a proper cross-gen evo since 2006 was Eevee, and it was part of promoting Fairy type

Farfetch'd is based on a Japanese idiom "a duck carrying its own leek" (meaning an easy mark / sitting duck), which refers to a duck so ready to be cooked that it even has the seasoning with it.
Sirfetch'd turns this on its head by using the leek as an actual dangerous weapon (I'm aware Farfetch'd does this in lore too but its leek looks absolutely puny by comparison) - the duck turns its weak point into its method of defense.

Madame is from an era where they would just put sprites into the game first before thinking about the logistics behind the design (like how it moves, how it fights, its personality, etc.)

We've heard from both Masuda and Turner that Pokemon designs rarely get scrapped anyway, and that if it doesn't work initially, they usually rework the design until it does work for the game

Basically, if they can't adapt its design to something that can not only work in-game, but to where it feels like it could be a creature that fits within what they created, they scrap it. There's been many over the years and many more to come.
