You mean Kanto? That was Johto's gimmick.
Hoenn feels like a pretty big region anyway. I'd say Hoenn is about the size of Johto+Kanto, Johto isn't that big.

I think each pokemon game being as unique as it can is probably the only thing they can do to get non-children to stay invested in the series. The whims of children can change at any time and pokemon may fall out of favour, delivering new experiences for familiar players is at least as important.

honestly yeah, especially on features, mechanics, QOL, events, mons, etc. I can understand not including all previous regions, or not including all previous mons in the main campaign, but they should've never cut features.

Hoenn has actual route variance rather than vague grassy paths, in addition to the expected caves, water routes, and dungeons.
Both regions of GSC combined don't have the variance of RSE, which has a desert, rocky mountain paths, a volcano, the ash rain route, archipelagos, the almost jungle-like tall grass routes, the dive sections, water routes with rapids, and of course, the usual grassy paths, forest, and caves.

Literally the most laughable thing I've read on this fucking site. It's super easy to prove you're wrong too, since in gen 3 maps are made of blocks that are roughly 20 by 20 tiles and kanto and hoenn are in gen 3

It's pretty easy to understand, Johto/gen 2 was treated as the final game, since they figured the hype was going to die, so they made the initial region very small and sparse so they could glue it right next to the older one and let you reminisce about that first game one last time in a mild sequel.

It's pretty clear that you're purposefully acting like retard to try and make it sound like the same logic should be applied to the dex cut but it's just coming across as even MORE retarded because the 2 are not the fucking same. Gamefreak has 2 regions in the game fucking once, and when they did johto was noticeably smaller than gen 1 kanto, so it's clear they were aiming to be additive rather than make a whole new expansive region. After that they just has the one region per game and each region was suitably sized for it. the dex cut was after 20 years of every game having EVERY pokemon, and when they cut out pokemon they had nothing to fucking show for it, unlike in gen 3 where the decision to only have new areas saw a sharp increase in new areas as it should've.

I don't mean to be rude, but this seems like backwards thinking. The pokemon aren't in the game by default, they have to put them there. They don't cut pokemon for fun, they cut them to save time.

Exactly, the problem lies in the fact that we got nothing out of it, gen 8 didn't see a steep improvement in any other aspect after cutting over half of the fucking pokemon out of the game. If they saved so much time then where tf did all that time go?

They are though. The Pokemon have no models but the data itself is there including data corresponding to things like mega evolutions or moves that are no longer used. Add the model back in and presto, now whichever Pokemon you wanted back in is back. It's not like the models in SwSh of already existing Pokemon were new anyway (though some were touched up like Pikachu having a 3D mouth instead of a 2D texture to represent one).
Feels less like the Pokemon were cut for any of the reasons given and more like it was just to save time and not have to rebalance them given the tumultuous development of SwSh, which is fine, but I'd prefer devs be transparent about that kind of shit than lie, make excuses or promise things that can't be delivered. I don't appreciate when Bethesda lie, I don't appreciate when EA lie and I sure as shit won't appreciate when Game Freak lie

Had they included a quality Johto campaign in FR/RG complete with a battle with Brandon/May at the end they would have gone from 8/10 to 10/10 games in my eyes

Name ONE (1) serious franchise that does this.
Smash removes things frequently
Zelda changes the whole game frequently
Mario hasn't had the frogsuit in decades
Monster Hunter removes monsters frequently
Digimon doesn't include 60% of its monsters
Final Fantasy changes the entire game frequently

2 regions should be the standard, after you beat champion your pokemon are always around level 50 and the cap is 100. Such wasted shit. Adding another region like in HGSS your pokemon can be around 70-80 and its perfect. And battle towers lower it to 50 anyway

It's bad enough they already forced us to use "Pokemon Passport" to visit other regions last gen, and now we need BOTH even though there aren't any other regions in Gen 3?

Came here to say this. The region cut and Dex cut aren't comparable.
One is an issue of scope and arguably hardware limitations, the other is an excuse to sell subscription fees and nothing more.
If they really had faith in Pokemon Home, they wouldn't have cut the GTS in order to make it a feature so that people would have to download it, regardless of if they end up getting the sub.
The cut just ensures that as long as they leave out 31 Pokemon, someone will crack and pay for the sub for the entire period.
All of that is completely disregarding how they claimed Bank would stick for generations (of people, not games). They never claimed the end goal was to visit all Pokemon regions in one game.
