Really? From what I've seen it looks like a Drayano-like with gen 4 evos and QOL for competitive. How is it too different from the normal emerald run?

Altered emerald has tons of interesting changes.
Drayano focuses on making every pokemon more or less viable to be on the same level of the broken OU mons in vanilla. Altered emerald just goes ballistic with changes, to the point you don't even know what the fuck is going on.
For example, Ledian is a rattled+electro ball abuser. You read it right. And it works.
Even pokemons that were completely fine got some ridicolous changes.
And yet: the game manages to stay balanced and fun from start to end.
Also every route got changed, the region exploration is improved and feels fresh.
It's one of my favourite hacks. With a simple concept and a solid execution.

A lot of the mapping for the game has been redone and several Pokemon serve completely new niches and functions. It does a lot more than your typical Dray hack does, it's meant to be essentially an alternative take on Emerald entirely.

Given that Erika's rematch uses an Unburden Hawlucha, it works as intended.
There's no speed boost message for Unburden, and it's likely you just don't have EVs, so even at +2 you're still slow.

Just DexNav Audinos on certain routes. Audinos show up on Route 25 (route above Cerulean by Bill's house), Route 16 (route west of Celadon), Cinnabar Mansion, Cerulean Cave, and Victory Road. With Lucky Egg any of these should be fast for whatever point in the game you're at.

What are some of romhacks that you played and found to be terrible?

I know this became more of a popular opinion as of now, but I always thought that Snakewood was awful in pretty much every way possible. I think the only reason people praise it is because "muh pokeymanz but in a zombie apocalypse".

Perfect EVs, yes, but by then you will have the tools to EV train perfectly in literally less than 10 minutes, just make sure to explore using Surf once you have it.
Perfect IVs, not really, just make sure they are decent and you should be fine.
You can pretty much beat the game with whatever and most things have been buffed to be pretty usable, it will likely take quite a few resets, though.
The Regis are also in the Raid Den in Victory Road

Snakewood has always been a parody. It was made with the sole purpose of being the worst of the worst. The over the top edginess, the absolutely gigantic visual bugs, how it never gives you a fucking pokedex, the entire plot that goes nowhere and just piles up more and more characters and bullshit, and the boss battles that are made just with the sole purpose of making the player grind forever. Hell, how can anyone think this is a serious game after the island of calm and the deadly seven?

Truly terrible games that were made seriously are Ruby Destiny Rescue Rangers, Grape and Quartz.

If you want a decent ghost tank I recommend you corsola-g with eviolite + strength sap, suprisingly good.

even without it, it's really good
it's evolution cursola did not work so well as a tank, i tried it out. Also unlike in g8 it can't learn endure so you cant do fun stuff with weak armor, either. corsola-g however is just a counterpart to corsola you can slap eviolite on, so it has great defensive stats + access to willowisp, strength sap and nightshade. used the set in picrel and it worked wonders
only problem is the constant need to cancel the evolution.

Are you dense? In monotypes you are allowed to use a pokemon that gains it's typing with an evolution (Shedinja). And Nincada is the only pokemon before Brock that can be ghost, unless you get lucky with the egg.

I get that, but monotype is more of a personal challenge and since there are monotypes you cant manage before the first gym, I think it would be fair to spare yourself of the torture that is trying to beat brock with 6 nincadas and start your challenge after the first gym instead.

Again, really seems like Shedinja should have just been straight banned. Maybe make it a special level 85 evolution for Nincada, but even then it utterly shits on Lorelei's rain team and still quite a bit of the E4

You can literally do that with anything if you try hard enough, anon. Or are you going to say that all of the Gym Leaders have absolutely perfect coverage with infinite PP on every mon unless you use Shedinja? Most Gyms focus around one or maybe two mons to fight against counterplays (Quagsire or equivalent in the Water Gym is basically a staple, for example), so having a single mon with a single move that could potentially kill Shedinja isn't that big of a deal.
It's a copout because the dev was too lazy.

Are you EV trained?
I'd probably remove Vileplume as it looks like it does the least here. Try leading with Mega Zard X and Luxray and 2v1ing the Hatterene, then go from there.
Spamming Protect and Leftovers from the Snorlax spots also might help to wear out Psychic Terrain turns/potentially Trick Room

I've still yet to figure out why Erin and Melia called themselves family, what the point of Alice/Allen is, if Ren is supposed to be a good or bad guy (like yeah you wanna make him sympathetic but he's supposed to be one of the bringers of darkness so you shouldn't make him too sympathetic), if Venam is in romantic love with Melia, and if Melia likes Venam or the MC because the scenes are so badly written.

Ah fuck, I'm misremembering. There's actually a later flashback to that scene in the library after you finish the events of Eclysia Pyramid in V12, mb. If you don't care about spoilers: Basically, they talk a little bit more, then they hug, and then a disembodied voice speaks to them and they both recognize it as the voice of 'their mother' and they seem to regain some lost memories. It's a little less stupid than I'm making it sound but still dumb.

She also says that Madame X's assertion that her and Venam are 'friends' is misguided.
There's a secret relationship point system in Rejuvenation that influences a bit of text (ie high enough relationship w/ Melia says she absolutely trusts you during the library scene) so idk, maybe in a later update if you get high enough relationship with Melia in a later update she'll be optionally romanceable and if you don't she goes with Venam

Wouldn't recommend it as a first hack. 1, it has a lot of QoL you are going to not enjoy missing out on if you play any future hacks. 2, it is honestly really difficult if your only prior experience with Pokemon is just the normal games.
Would heavily recommend playing something like a Drayano hack first.

Just beat the 2nd gym leader who uses Grass types. Her team is interesting, she has an Eldegoss as her strongest and a Lotad, Lileep and Roselia to dissuade Fire, Flying and Bug types a bit.
Something also to note is that there’s a mode called Skilled Mode. If you enable it, all encounters you meet are scaled to your highest level Pokémon, being 1 or 2 levels higher. This helps spice up the game a bit. I’m playing this while having battles on SET and using no items and it’s actually not that easy. It also has overworld encounters if you’re into that stuff

So I'm learning about the story. Some of these crests are pretty cool though, getting to use Thunder Punch Typhlosion again is great and Zangoose is amazing. Though going against 500 Crested Claydols is fucking annoying, who thought boosted Hyper Beams with no cooldowns was a good idea is a moron.
Gotta wonder how the dev saw the chance to boost unused mons and still hasn't gotten around to Tropius though.

How is it anymore crutch than literally any defensive pokemon? Corsola-G with eviolite does it's job better, Snorlax has been doing the same job for over 25 years, Blissey, Umbreon, etc you name it. What makes Corviknight different than any of them? Hell Corviknights stats are actually worse than a lot of defensive walls.

I'm struggling hard with the flying gym leader on Unbound. I'm doing set mode on difficult but I still feel like the level scaling sucks compared to level caps.

EV training also seems to be a thing for the gym leader. My larvitar is doing like 50% to a Mega Pinsir with rock slide which is weird.

Any advice for this gym leader? I beat radical red so it's not like I suck but this is pretty disheartening at this point.

When the option isn't easily available and involves breeding/even worse forms of EV grinding, you don't feel obligated to do it.

When were you EV training? If you're doing it before you get the power items it probably takes a while, but there's absolutely no reason to do it before the League - and at that point it takes a couple minutes per Pokemon. And the longest part isn't even the grinding, it's waiting for the fucking dexnav to stop giving you 'Pokemon cannot be found' (I REALLY hope they remove that)
Sounds more like you have OCD about minmaxing than an actual flaw of the hack desu. Just cheat money in if it bothers you that much

The game makes EV training much faster and easier (post Koga) and IV perfecting super easy, costing 15-20 minutes of your time.

EV training might be mandatory after a certain point, but it's so laughably easy in this romhack that you'd have to be too lazy to play at all to complain about it, and 3/6 perfect IVs takes almost no time at all and is prolly all you need to finish provided you're not running a full team of unevolved Caterpies.

You just are not very smart then. Rad Red is pretty convenient. You don't need Max IVs or perfect EVs before Koga, and after Koga you get the power items and wild double battles which makes it take no time at all. And if you want money for IVs you just bring 5-6 thief pokemon to the Pelippers on Route 15 (don't even need Frisk since the chance is ridiculously high) and just use up all your thief PP and you'll have enough money for 1 or 2 max IV mons.

You guys are missing the point. I'm complaining that the grind shouldn't exist at all. The fact that it's "easy to do" doesn't mean shit since it's still boring ass shit that I don't want to do. A good hack shouldn't make the player wait around while they spam dexnav to max their mons/money for better stats.
I couldn't speak for most hacks since I drop all hacks the moment I see shitty level curves that encourage grinding I stop playing entirely, but hacks like Drayano's never have anything that you ever need to grind on. I was able to beat BB2 without grinding basically ever. I want to play the game, not run around on 8x speed spamming A.

There are much bigger issues. I'd personally add an alternative to the IV Maxer that only maxes one stat for much cheaper (just to get that speed) or max all IVs by default. And the amount of money required for TMs/move tutors is already steep, and grinding for money is the one thing the hack hasn't made easier. Put the VS Seeker back, and add a few moneybags trainers near the League/Victory Road to grind off of with Amulet Coin or something that give huge cash rewards for beating.

I don't understand what you're asking for. If you're half way through the game and you want to catch a new Pokemon that's level 10, you WILL have to grind it up. There's no way of removing that as long as the game remains a progression based RPG with levels in it.

I'm not saying disallow grinding, I'm saying that you shouldn't encourage it. Rad red encourages it with opposing teams that take advantage of "grinding" so you feel like you need to keep up by doing the same thing. If you need to grind to progress in a hack, just rethink it entirely.

I never felt like I had to. Sounds more like autism on your part. There are a bunch of solutions to any problem. You could catch better Pokemon, figure out how the AI reacts to things and abuse it, or use EVs to 'brute force' your way through with powerful Pokemon. They're all valid, and they're all pretty quick.

Yeah this is that kind of autistic grinding that I said was stupid as shit and that I don't want in my games. I don't think it's particularly skillful, especially in early game where you have literally 0 control over it unless you really want to do it all in the first route.
At its best it allows Pokemon occupy different niches to varying degrees of success. But even then, it's just a matter of "I want this mon to have more atk/bulk/speed to ohko/live more than one/outspeed this mon". Which yes you do, everyone wants that to happen. It's not indicative of any super deep strategy.

Ironically I was able to cheese the first gym on Insane since fog made the opponents miss a shitload of times. I just wish you'd have the Macho Brace and DexNav (or documentation at that) by the time the second gym comes since it's not very easy to optimize your team.

pokemon difficulty isn't as satisfying as shit like smt due to it being a retarded numbers grinding simulator. making team comps/strats is cool as fuck but if you dont ev train (and you gotta to truly be able to run whoever/whatever you want) it doesn't matter. half the fun of meme difficulty games like dark souls or smt is outbraining or outskilling bosses or breaking the game. there is zero skill in grinding up numbers/hunting for perfect numbers. it just doesn't feel rewarding.

yeah I feel you. My only permanent member so far is Gabite (Jolly with 20+ ivs on hp atk and speed). Stunky has great ivs also but I'll eventualy drop him

The dark gym was a bit harder. Roselia managed to survive night slash turn 1 and use toxic spikes, then if it wasnt for my double fighting mons + fake out I wouldn't ever win. Stunky got a clutch toxic vs honchkrow as well, else it would sweep me too.
