They're no where near the level of comfy time sink as HGSS but they aren't trying to be, It's trying to be an open ended and free pokemon adventure, allowing for as much creative expression as possible, be it teams since the game is easy enough that you can use anything if you try hard enough, or choosing how much of the world you wanna explore since almost all the dungeons are completely optional and filled with battles, items, and rare pokemon to reward thorough players. And at this, it excels greatly.
Also free transfers on the VC version that gives you their hidden abilities, and even a free celebi event if you get crystal.
