The magnamite line is incredibly busted in game to the point you don’t even have to try with any major battle. It was insane to give you one at the second gym in bw2

I'll cede that for Obstagoon maybe but G!Linoone seemed pretty inoffensive an forgettable overall and Ziggy is just a wacky little dude and it served to revisit the line again while giving it stuff like snarl, knock off and night slash.

I don't think most regional forms have any "need" to exist but zigzagoon's one of my favorite earlygame rodent shitmons and it gave me a reason to remember why I liked him in Gen 8.

I actually didn’t mind the line at all. I don’t particularly like it but it’s nice for them to give regional forms to non gen 1 mons and to also give some of them new evolutions entirely.

Does it? It's been a while since I used Luxray in a Gen IV playthrough, and I distinctly remember being very unimpressed with it, so I ran some numbers.
>252 Atk Luxray Spark vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 230-272 (88.1 - 104.2%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
>252 Atk Kricketune X-Scissor vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 224-266 (85.8 - 101.9%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
Spark/Thunder Fang Luxray was only marginally stronger than X-scissor Kricketune, and it hasn't been usable in-game since then until Isle of Armor.

You acn evolve it as early as the Ghost trial in USUM. The best tine is at level 37 because it gets Ice Hammer upon evolution for strong STAB. Also Crabhammer for coverage.

I mean you do also have Thunderbolt off base 95 Special Attack which is solid. There's a million Gyarados in Sinnoh as well, or so it feels like, so the typing alone goes a long way.
