I never had any trouble with Mt. Moon in Gen I since I usually catch a Pikachu who can one shot Zubats and is fast enough to run from Geodudes. Most recent playthrough I even fucked around and sent it to another Gen I game to get it Surf on Stadium and rocked the fuck out of Geodudes too, just for shits and giggles.

Relative to other caves, Mt. Moon is huge inside
Not in terms of scale, because it's only a few rooms.
But they're all huge empty caverns instead of more snaking paths
Combine that with the fact that there's no other path from western Kanto to the rest of it, and it makes me really curious about what the history of Mt. Moon actually is.
These caves had to be man made, but at the same time, wouldn't a road over been a lot easier?

If you know the layout, Mt. Moon is really not that much of a slog to go through. If anything, the most annoying part of going through it is how often you're going to be thrown into battles with wild Pokemon. Especially since a lot of those encounters will be Zubat.

In FRLG, as far as I'm aware, before obtaining the national dex, you cannot evolve anything into a pokemon that was introduced after gen 1.

This isn't an excuse, it's never been an excuse.
Kanto has zero dark types, and yet Murkrow and Houndour were EXCLUSIVE to Kanto in Gen 2, not to mention Team Rocket's aces are those two.
Every time I feel like GameFreak does that to "preserve the Kanto experience" it only jeapordizes it more.

In HGSS they developed inside the cave so it's basically just a glorified road through the cavern.
Mt. Moon square is immensely based, I just wish the other rooms were intact as a bonus.

I like how the caves in kanto are some of the only dungeons in the whole series where's there's enough trainer battles that you can realistically run out of PP, and it's not uncommon to get you're team worn down by chip damage too. It added a resource management element to the games

That assumes you want to backtrack through the cave or use escape ropes. Obviously the Anon is referring to how you will gradually spend resources while exploring your way through the whole thing, which is a perfectly normal thing to do. Many players will generally attempt to tackle a problem as best as they are able to, only "giving up" and leaving if they feel too pushed to safely finish.

Nah, that's Mt. Mortar
>Completely skippable if you get surf first
>If you don't wanna get surf it's still just a quick hallway

Sometimes though, a dungeon should be just a dungeon, and not a pathway. Not to say that Mt. Mortar isn't good, though.
