Normally you just fish, and if something bites you can just hit A whenever to get your encounter.
In RSE you have to be actively watching your screen to hit A as soon as the text appears, and with the better rods you have to do that like 3-5 times before you even get to battle.
It really fucking sucks. Pokemon has never been a game that I give my full attention to, it's best played while watching a show or something, so you don't notice how unbearably slow and tedious every aspect of the game is. RSE fishing means you can't look away from your screen for even a moment.
You also can't do it at all with speed-up on an emulator, which makes me want to die
Even GF must have thought it was shitty, since they never put it in a game again
