>>45696375That's a pretty big deflection.
SWSH sold 19% more than SM, which sold slightly less than XY so that creates a baseline.
New Horizons sold 108% more than New Leaf.
Odyssey sold 217% more than 3D World.
Breath of The Wild sold (only on Switch) 533% more than Skyward Sword.
Does that put things into context better? All of these are also games that don't get a commercial boost by having multiple versions. So much of Pokemon's video game revenue is made up by a small percentage of dedicated fans that are guaranteed to buy one or both of each version. GameFreak's dilemma lately has been trying to draw in different types of people than the crowd in an effort to expand sales further; and of course, it's failing miserably as it seems they're moving further and further from moves that would make them sales with kids and instead are determined to go in the opposite direction and make decisions only the most devoted will accept in an effort to garner attention.
That's the issue here. GameFreak won't take a clipping from high grossing games like Fortnite or Among Us with open-ended gameplay or integrated multiplayer; they'd rather double down on the Yokai-Visual Novel style and slap a flashy new gimmick like Z-Moves or Dynamax than expand what's already set in place.
There is absolutely no excuse for SWSH not selling at least 25 million copies between it being the first full scale new region, having DLC to further stimulate sales, and being split into to versions to account for the extremely devoted.
The other anons can cope all they want, but the undeniable evidence is there that is flopped. In the end, LGPE is the more cost effective unless they want to emphasize more connectivity with Home (which is currently acting as a safety net which is the reason why the cut happened in the first place).
