Just started a playthrough of Explorers of Sky for the first time after finishing RT.
Why did they change the Kangaskhan storage, I can't save much in there.
Any tips on what to store there?

The storage increases with rank, eventually you'll be able to store a lot of things.

Also items are stored in stacks of 99, so you got plenty, just limited slots.

I liked to be able to store every single stick and rock I found.
People say this game is better than RT but so far I've found some downgrades to the original. I guess the story is better in this one from what I know.

Yeah it sucks ass. My storage is almost full and completely upgraded so I'll have to go through the entire focking thing and sort things out. I'm dreading this so much I stopped playing for now.

That's from Google images. But I got Phanpy as a starter and Turtwig as a companion, are those bad?

Phanpy's moveset isn't kind to it. Sure it starts with Ancientpower which is good, but Rollout always misses and isn't good in Sky, unlike later games. Barring that the only moves it has are Tackle, Take Down which is a worse Tackle, Earthquake (which kills your partner) and Natural gift, which makes you give up a hold item to gain any hint of coverage. If you're dedicated to using Phanpy, you could use Natural Gift to get whatever type of attack you want, as long as you have the seeds/berries.
Turtwig's not terrible but isn't amazing. At least it has razor leaf

If you mean the cutscene where everyone has dinner, we all had to suffer through that one. It wasn't until a few months ago that someone found out you can skip that one cutscene by pressing Start, apparently.

Earthquake was the reason I chose Turtwig as a companion. I thought because of it's grass type it would be able to survive the move. Makes me regret not lying during the personality test.

Honestly, one of the electric starters would have been a better idea. Most pokemon get a swap item that makes its primary weakness heal. Like pic related for the mareep line, though it's no starter

It's the story and characters people praise. The gameplay is just average MD with a few QoL additions from RT

Every Pokemon has a few rare exclusive items to buff them.
You can trade them around to get better ones

IQ groups are tied to Pokémon species instead giving them more variety, instead of making all Pokémon the exact same by allowing the player to switch group anytime

The 1000 storage limit only really blows if you never use the recycle shop.
It makes it very easy to turn hundreds of junk items into actual useful things.
