Just started playing pic attached for the first time. Why does everything, especially battle sprites, look so fucking blurry? Is this normal? Is my game broken? I am so confused. It looks like they went for a mix of 2D and 3D graphics, but everything just looks so pixelated. Wtf?!

It's the engine. XY has the same problem because it built off of BW's and slapped 3D models in lazily.
There's a reason Alola and Galar look so much better.

That makes sense. BW and XY were literally unplayable for me when trying to use the DexNav. That shitty engine can't handle more than two things on screen at once.
Alola and Galar games fixed it pretty good though, which explains why they put soulful trainers in the battles too without making the game blurry like Gen 5 or 6.

Serves you right. It's a shitty useless gimmick anyway. There's nothing to use about it other than have it tell you to run in circles.
It wasn't even good in ORAS. It was nigh unusable in BW/XY.

Im not using an emulator, Im playing on a 2DS. is it because the 2ds doesnt have 3d capabilities?

I love unova but probably nothings wrong with your game, the sprites are just ugly lol.

Game likes to zoom in and out of the overworld and battles and it just looks messy when it happens. The sprites kinda just fall apart.

It's because the 2DS has a bigger resolution. DS screens are 256 x 192 pixels while the 2DS has 400 x 240.

OP, you are playing a DS game on a 2DS console. You need to hold Start or Select when you launch the game from the home menu to launch the game in it's original resolution, which will fix the visuals but leave you with a smaller screen size.

LOL! That method is proven to skew DexNav encounters, it's basically a hack.
OP, I recommend playing USUM or SWSH + DLC instead. You won't find anything of value in Unova and these games look good without cheating.
Unless you like shitty, mobile-tier games with endless amounts of forced tutorials and gimmicks. In which case I recommend you play through all of BW, BW2, and XY.

Number one, the 2DS blows up the picture making DS games look pixely If you want OG resolution for DS games, hold start and select as you boot up the game from the home screen. Number two though is actually a problem with the hardware itself. BW's sprites are genuinely too hi-res for any DS model to handle. In an emulator they look fine since you aren't confined to 240p resolution. Here you can see the game cranked up to 1080p with anti-aliasing in DesMuMe. Of course, the sprites are still sprites and still look pixely but cranking up the resolution here really makes the game look nice. Notice the cleaner scaling effects on the opposing pokemon when it zooms out to show you throwing your pokemon out.

...anon the DexNav doesn't even exist in Gen 5. It's not even in X/Y. It's only for ORAS. BW doesn't have any gimmicks, it's just a mon game. Plus SWSH is just laughably bad and costs over twice as much with the DLC.

No you're just retarded. 3DSXL blows up the picture even more than standard 2DS making it even more pixely. Really the best way to play BW is on a DSi. All 3DS models have a larger screen than any of the DS models (except maybe DSi XL but I've only had one encounter with one of those and that was like a decade ago so idk) so the 3DS is gonna make DS games look worse than they would on a DS. Thankfully they allow you to switch to original resolution with the trick I mentioned in my last post. I agree though, pixely or not Gen 5 is really good looking.

Am I missing something? Dexnav wasn't in gen 5? Neither was poke radar which was in dpp and xy but not bw/bw2
