I'm bitter because of the content it removed from HGSS, but they still have one of the most solid foundations for a game in the series aside from XY. You could argue BW2 did it best because it expanded the concepts of BW without sacrificing the charm.
I'm at a halfway point between liking and loving it, and I feel the same about Gen 6. Love the engine, only like the games though. You put any other region in that engine though and you've got a pretty good game at worst.
