Remote raid passes are a hell of a drug. Also they did the annual Gofest but fully in the app so you didn't have to travel to one specific city on your continent. I can imagine those were huge revenue drivers.

Bullshit. I don't play so much, but I have a friend with his girlfriend that are in a huge group of Pokémon Go players and no one of them are "whales".
Also during the Pokémon Go Community Days the big parks in my city are filled with players.
