Yes, Kanto and Gen 1 are the most popular entry of the series. So yes, they are focusing on shit that has the most broad appeal.

Also, this tells me you aren't even watching the show. Most of the Galar episodes have been more plot heavy (each time they go to Galar, it gets two episodes). The Kanto stuff is really just Vermillion, which is the base since Ash and Go are from Kanto.

There's no reason to be based in Kanto

The region hopping gimmick serves no purpose and is actually a detriment to the show since being able to just hop to a different region at any time makes Pokemon's world feel small and robs the regions of any distinct identity. Narratively, it makes Kanto feel like it's just right down the street from Galar/other regions
