I remember liking Ranger a lot more than the original Mystery Dungeon but thinking that it lacked replay value

Mine would be that they made a mistake in not trying to make the series at least somewhat edgy. I remember thinking even as a kid that the atmosphere of the games could have been improved with elements you find in PokéSpe

GSC had a certain grit to it, along with a good atmosphere. I like how they continued the story of the first games behind the scenes. Characters were likable and the universe felt alive.

I didn't dislike RSE but they felt weirdly dry after compared to what came before it

Pokemon with "jobs" or "themes" aren't an issue. The problem usually starts at the design itself. Good idea, bad execution is a recurring theme of an unfortunate number of Pokemon designs. You can't tell me that "aquatic spy chameleon that can turn invisible in water, glide with its membranes, and can use its digits like a water pistol" doesn't sound fun on paper. Despite that, they fucked it up.
We have to stop lumping Pokemon into these shitty groups like "jobmon", "it just gets bigger", "literally my mom's _____", etc. because NONE of these groups are exclusively terrible. There are good and bad examples of each group so it's stupid to live only by the bad ones.

Pokemon has the exact opposite problem that Sonic has (had I guess) in terms of taking itself seriously. I think one of the understated reasons for pre-GBA nostalgia is that the gens after that have slowly become more cartoonish with time

A Pokémon game that feels sincere (but not melodramatic or overly edgy) would be a welcome move at this point. Kids can smell childish pandering and they hate it

Not that poster and not an alolafag but he's right, jobmons aren't an inherently bad thing but get fucked up all the time. Considering the design process of a Pokemon is basically just being passed around from artist to artist until they're "marketable" enough to be/"look like" a Pokemon, I wouldn't be surprised if there's amazing ideas that just get put through the wringer to try and make it palatable to the masses.

I liked the first two gens because there was no world ending calamity you have to befriend a legendary to stop. It's comfy and has a good feel, while also letting me feel like a real trainer competing on equal foot.

When you're the digidestined every game, it gets stale quickly. I don't want to save the world, the region, or anything that big.

The only gen I feel that did it kind of right was Gen 5 as that plotline was interesting and deeper than "I'm bad hahahahah"

Dexit doesn't bother me, I'm fine with temporarily sacrificing a few hundred Pokemon if the tradeoff is higher quality games with more polish and content (unfortunately GameFreak is lazy/incompetent/on a tight schedule so we might never see this in our lifetimes, but I can at least acknowledge that dex cuts are one of the only realistic solutions to the rapidly increasing amount of new Pokemon).

The trek to Snowpoint City is grueling and slow, but that's the whole point. It succeeds at making you feel like you're on a relentless journey fighting against nature in a remote corner of the world, which makes reaching Snowpoint much more relieving and makes it way more memorable as a result. I'm scared that a DP remake will "fix" this and turn the route into something as short and bland as Galar's route leading to Wyndon.

Hau may be one of those spineless friendly rivals, but I really like his character arc because of how he plays off of Gladion, and through their interactions, their perspectives on battling rub off on each other. Gladion learns to let loose a bit and smile in his final fight with you, and Hau shows subtle bitterness after you brush him aside to take on the Elite Four. I liked that way more than USUM outright making him the champion. He's not supposed to be the final boss, he's just your dorky kid neighbor whose effort was too little too late to truly surpass you.

But that doesn't happen. And there's no universe in which it even theoretically happens. The people who make the models don't even work at Gamefreak. There's absolutely no reason to assume that having every Pokemon in the game makes development more difficulty at all. ESPECIALLY since they're still reusing models from Gen 6 for every Pokemon that isn't brand new.

Massively agree. I obviously have my favorites, but as an example, people always go apeshit over the female player characters when they're usually the most generic designs in their respective game. The most baffling is Gloria- at least Serenafags have the anime, but I cannot begin to imagine what's so attractive about Gloria aside from le funny accent

The concept of real animals existing in the Pokemon world is lame, but the concept of America existing is neat. So 50/50.

Is this even an unpopular opinion? Alola is easily my least favorite region, the whole island motif gets old about ten minutes into the hour long tutorial. Absolutely none of its locations stand out in my mind. The only interesting aspect of that entire generation location-wise was the Ultra dimension and that was limited to just being a series of hallways.

I think literally everyone would be fine with this aside from a handful of whiners.
Hell, even if it only meant more detailed graphics and animation, it'd be understandable.
The core issue with dexit is that they decided to do this on top of an already mediocre game.
