Actually really like Hypno's design but it's stats make it borderline useless doubly so since it's in the same gen as fucking Alakazam. Hell, even Kadabra shits on it stat wise so it doesn't even have that old 'too poor to afford a link cable' excuse.
Unmatched for hypno fetish shit at least.

in competitive theres no reason to use hypno over alakazam. if you’re playing alone and you can’t trade kadabra than hypno might be better with its higher hp/defense and hypnosis.

That's what I was going to post. Hypno is a good deal tankier than Kadabra but worse in every other way. Hypno is fun to use if you need a psychic and are sick of using Alakazam.

Just stop giving them pendulums and nothing will happen. Hypno actually seems like a downgrade from Drowzee in hypnosis skills, Drowzee can wave its hands around to do it, but Hypno relies on a crutch.

A lot of pokemon get better through exposure but I think gen 1 pokemon do especially. Mr Mime is pretty much only positively recieved because of the anime for example, if it weren't for that I have no idea if anyone would even like him.

I think all of the Hypno porn has warmed people up to Hypno as a pokemon in general oddly enough, it's not like people really care about him outside of that but I think it's a good thing because it's a strangely cute pokemon that's very neglected by the franchise itself.
