Recover, easily. Roost should only be used on Flying types since you can actually take advantage of all of Roost's benefits.

If I'm running non choiced I just use gems. But for my move I usually use recover because I like the animation better.

Probably because he wants to switch attacks. If Latios is your last pokemon, for example, Life Orb can allow you to reverse sweep, while Choiced Latios will almost always lose that situation.
