I never understood why people had issues with the bog or the fog.
The bog had visible darker patches to indicate deeper spots that you would sink in, and there was always a stretch of shallow bog to walk on without ever having to sink once.
Fog was as simple as using an HM, and it's not like your movepools need to be optimal in the main game; one less coverage or support move never hurt your Flying type/others.
The deep snow on the blizzard route was the only actual annoyance, and even then it's completely negligible as an obstacle.

In the case of Fog, people probably didn't want to waste a move slot on a move they would use only once in the entire game. Granted it's in-game as you said and some pokemon had such barren movepools they could afford slotting Defog or whatever HM you needed.

Fog is one route too and pretty easy to bruteforce, you might as well complain about Dark Cave in Kanto which you don't need Flash for either.

Defog is actually used 4 times, 5 in Platinum. Granted, Turnback Cave is optional, and so is Lost Tower where Defog is present in Platinum.

I'm not really concerned with Fog beyond Route 210.
Fog was cool in Turnback Cave though. Really enhanced the atmosphere.

Fog is a retarded weather condition and nothing thrives in it. I have enough fog where I live IRL to make my area look like a fucking PS1 game, I don't need it shitting up my pokemon games too.
