The problem is if you do a bunch of raids online you can get more powerful XP candies that can overlevel your team, but I found that refraining from using them made the game harder, and I did battle every trainer and got all the XP I could. Since you can access your pokemon boxes from anywhere, it would be good to use more than 6 pokemon and rotate them out occasionally to have a more enjoyable experience, but you can do whatever you want. People are equating this game to a visual novel but it's really not true. Overall this game has way less text than Gen 5 and 7. You can even skip most tutorials unlike those games. I will admit in the beginning section there is a lot of exposition, but that's only for like an hour or less. Once you get to the wild area, text slows down considerably, and if you really don't care it's not too hard to mash through it. If you can get the DLC then I'd totally reccomend that, it's something that most people unanimously agree is pretty good unlike the base game that people are divided on. Though another thing I like about swsh is the gameplay changes in the new mechanic Dynamax. See, a lot of people hate Dynamax but I do enjoy it for what it is. I like how it's used in the story mostly. In every other pokemon game, there wasn't really much to set a gym battle above a regular battle aside from higher levels. With Dynamax, gym fights actually feel important, and since every boss Dynamaxes even though you are not required to, if you feel inclined to make the game harder you can choose not to Dynamax yourself. Honestly I really just don't think the game is as bad as others make it out to be, but again you can watch some gameplay for yourself and make a decision yourself.
