Going back to SM, the reason I was disappointed with Mount Lanakila was because it felt too simplistic for a victory road and there were no trainers on it as I said in an earlier post, so it didn't feel like a proper victory road. The rest of Alola on the other hand met my expectations for normal routes in pokemon games (battle trainers, catch wild pokemon, collect items on the over world) so I wasn't disappointed with those. Alola had it's fair share routes with branching/optional paths (route 1 having that section with Munchlax and Bonsly on it, route 2 having hau'oli cemetery, route 7 having that surfing section, etc.). I honestly think people exaggerate the "straight line" criticism
