>>45734324>But was the pointed hat necessary at all?Well, in regards to the Pokemon itself, it's a very important aspect of it's design. Hatterene wouldn't like as good as it does imo if they didn't creatively blend two different types of medieval hats (a Witch's Hat and a Princess Cap) to create a unique fusion that has the wide brim, the trailing fabric, and the point of both, except in Hatterene's case the "trailing fabric" is a clawed tendril that it uses to maul things. It also immediately and clearly gets across part of Hatterene's personality and it's basis, and adds something to the silhouette to keep it from being generic and uninteresting.
Also, though you don't see stereotypical examples in SWSH, Witches and those who dress like them are present in Pokemon games. The Hex Maniacs from RSE
>>45739203 are a good example of this aesthetic being used well before Hatterene, and as some humans in Pokemon canonically have psychic powers it stands to reason that there's a bunch of Hex Maniacs who can actually hex people. Opal is referred to as a Wizard but she also gives off that sort of vibe. While no examples are blatantly called out as such as far as I can remember, it stands to reason that there were Witches in the Pokemon world in the ancient past for the Hex Maniacs to dress up and act the way they do.
The question, then, is did Hatterene mimic some of those human "Witches" who lived in Galar, or did those Witches don their outfits in homage to Hatterene due to it's mystical behavior and magical abilities? Did Hatterene's create the first Witch cult? Do Witches worship the Raging Goddess?
