Based. But DP was also great, AG was the anime staff recovering from Johto and trying to see what would stick and what would not and then finessing those concepts in DP.

Johto had less filler than Hoenn and Sinnoh but was far worse than any of them because the main cast had become cardboard cutouts by then. AG and Sinnoh added some energy to Brock.

The OI arc (as well as the Kanto arc) showed what they can do when the show isn't entirely a giant commercial. Fuck, the Orange Island had more world building then some of the regions.

The issue with Johto is that other than Ash collecting badges to enter the Johto league there's almost nothing else happening because they scrapped the GS ball and Celebi storyline, they didn't want to commit to a proper Team Rocket storyline because Jessie, James and Meowth always have to chase Ash and Pikachu, and there was no contest stuff to fill in the gaps between badges.

gen 4 gets credit for getting me back into Pokemon. gen 3 disinterested me so much but I got Platinum on a whim and thought it was what the next generation of Pokemon should have been. I was actually excited for HGSS.

gen 5 was peak for me. B2W2 I have fond enjoyable memories of. it would be peak Kino if it had Hilbert / Hilda as a secret end boss a la Red.

Johto he had the advantage of his return being a comeback while in Hoenn the four person group meant they could split up in different ways with each duo having their own dynamic. In Sinnoh however it was the Ash and Dawn show with Brock often being left with nothing to do once he'd done flirting for the episode.

Gen 4 was easily my all time favorite, but I still believe gen 5 was the best overall. For reference I'm talking about the games only. Never cared for the anime so disregard this if that's pretty much what you're basing it on.

I agree. Gen 4 had the best games Platinum and HGSS. It was also the peak of the anime with Sinnoh League and only Battle Frontier comes close to that. Best Wishes killed Pokémon for good.
