xy was the last true pokemon game. it had hms, gyms, victory road, an elite four, a full national dex, and no move cuts. that doesn't mean it was a good pokemon game, it was bland, forgettable, and ultimately led to the generational gimmick trend.

Oras was good but XY was kinda meh. Best thing about ORAS was they finally fixed the dexnav so you can actually sneak properly unlike XY where it was near impossible with the roller skates.

Gyms and elite fours were never what defined pokemon though. It was the pokemon that did, and SWSH is a piece of shit for removing them but SM still has it. And the Elite Four do exist in the game too, on top of a victory road in all but name (Mt. Lanakila in USUM) and it also had all the moves

It's not Zelda cycle.
Really think about the transition from BW2 to XY. They had to make models for all the pokemon that existed at that point and animate them, as well as making the whole 3D region. It turned out pretty cool, Lumoise City was really cool back then.
Of course, XY does have its problems. Like pic related for instance. What the FUCK is this? XY undeniably has the worst battles in the franchise, but overall though XY did a lot for the games.

This isn't remotely true for Alola and Galar is a region that ascended beyond the concept of "level design" to make an quasi open world masterpiece. Pure and unadulterated brilliance that won't be acknowledged for awhile.

I like the originals better, mainly because of graphics and music, but I don't think ORAS are bad. Aside from graphics and music, I don't like the fact that a lot of the trainers have less pokemon on their party's than they did in RSE. Groudon and Kyogre shouldn't have got primal forms. GameFreak only made them because they're the box cover legendaries and for marketability sake. Other than that, I can't think of anything I dislike about ORAS. They're overall decent games. They do have the physical/special split and day/night cycle that the originals didn't have if that interests you

idk about nostalgia but Hoenn is one of my favorite regions so I guess I do have some bias. If it was a remake of Johto or Sinnoh I'm not sure I'd like it as much
