For me, this was honestly the first time I wasn't impressed with the starters at all.

Although there are plenty I like I am a grass fanboy, always choose grass no matter what. Even the weaker ones I always find something to love about them. When I seen Grookey I was excited, gorillas are my favorite animal how could this not be my dream starter.

Then we got Rillaboom, the most boring starter I have ever used. It became the least used mon on my play through.

Across the board these starters are the weakest ones in the series.

They're all meh design wise (Final evos Cinderace and Inteleon being downright terrible) but they are the best set of starters competitively. They are some broken mons

It will depend on what happens to Grookey in the show. Cinderace was clearly intended to be the popular one, but Rillaboom's early success in competitive got it a decent amount of attention. Giving Ash a Grookey would boost it a lot.

Clearly Scorbunny, it's both popular and great in the battles. Grookey is actually best competitively, yet nobody seem to care about it and it haven't appear in anime even after a year.
Sobble's popularity is one thing it have over Grookey.

It's funny, it's the opposite for me. It took a while but eventually I warmed up to all of them, though I liked Grookey the least. When I saw Rillaboom I honestly thought it was really cool. This is the first time I really liked all the starters, but I understand why people wouldn't like them.

Bullshit, it's #1 in BSS and one of top pokemon in OU. In fact it's probably better than Greninja because it can hit harder.
It's just that like Greninja before, Cinderace don't really favor the doubles format because of its fragility. In singles it's undoubtedly one of best starter.

Rillaboom has a awful design but it's probably the best competitively. None of the line's members appeared in the anime yet and it's the least popular starter among the fans.

Cinderace's design also sucks, although the GMax form salvaged it somewhat. Good in singles, relevant in the anime.

Inteleon is the only good design but it's underwhelming competitively and doesn't have presence in the anime (Sobble will probably stay unevolved).

People are all kind of lukewarm about them I feel like.

Cinderace is going to win unless it gets Decidueye’d and another gets into Smash/Ash gets it in the anime.

Cinderace wins in raw popularity too

Rillaboom dominates competitively, as whilst it is less used in singles it’s still OU and it’s meta defining in VGC.
