YES! Cartoon animals and Bipedal designs are bad. Only when you decide to do nothing with them. By that I mean that they need something that says wow this literally isn't just a komodo dragon. Make it thinner and feminine to stand out. Wow this is would literally be a blue man. Make it extremely thin to reference real life reptiles and give it a comically long tail. As long as they have some distinct exaggerated feature then it's good.
