How much of the Pokemon franchise do you even care about? This is a franchise with a lot of media and products ranging from toys, TCG, anime, manga, etc. but most here seem to only give a shit about the games.

Main series was good up until Game Freak decided to change their target audience from 10 year olds to 5 year olds with gen 6. Tcg I stopped keeping up with in gen 4 but it seems like it's still good. Spinoffs died in gen 5 but were easily the best games overall. Anime I dropped midway through gen 3 but from the occasional episode I've caught here and there I'd say quality hasn't changed much but direction has certainly become less appealing to me personally now that it's more slice of life. Merch I always have and probably always will love although I don't really have the space for it right now so I haven't bought any since we downsized over a year ago. Go is unplayable here and that was only ever worth it for the catch them all irl adventure thing which died completely with covid lockdowns, the rest of the mobile stuff is junk unless you've got a very young very stubborn kid you're training to brush their teeth then smile has a purpose for like 3 months of your kid's life maybe.

Personally, before the games when to shit, I was big into the games, the cards, and even the anime to an extent as I had started building a small collection of the movies. The games and cards were easily the biggest draw for me though.

After playing SWSH, I was pretty burnt out on the games and now I honestly like the TCG more. I don't watch the anime but I enjoy the idea of a world of trainable monster companions. I hope the next games are more competent.
