Walking into the grass, getting a loading screen, and then battling a Pokemon is no no different from seeing a Pokemon, walking up to it, and battling it

Overworld encounters are not bad in theory, but the way Gamefreak made Pokemon interact with the overworld is hilariously terrible and lacking.

The tall grass allows them to hide how awful they are. So it ends up flowing a lot better.

Why do people lump oras in with lgpe? Is it because they lack the mental capacity to understand that it came out when grid based map design was still the series standard as seen in X/Y? Atleast try to pretend like you're not comparing oras to series standards set 2 years after it's release

I don't think you understand that Nintendo allows a lot more leeway with Zelda than they do with their biggest cashcow of all time. A Pokemon game needs to come out every year to maintain the hype and bank on nostalgia, meanwhile Zelda can take all the time it needs on games except in the very specific case of Majora's Mask.
Majora's Mask reused most of its assets from Ocarina of Time, and the world is far smaller than a usual Zelda game. The whole game would only take around an hour or two if the time resetting mechanic wasn't so baked into everything. A Pokemon game on the scale of Botw would take as long as Botw took to make, and that's no way to maintain a cashcow.

Random encounters preserve the "gaming abstraction" feel that Pokemon needs in order to not look like shit. It's the same reason gen 6's chibi models were preferable to the realistic proportions we have now. GF hasn't learned anything in the past 25 years. At least when it's bobblehead people doing a stock animation to make something happen it doesn't look as retarded or lazy. People would not shit so hard on Sonia's Yamper fade-to-black opening a door if the graphics didn't try to be realistic.

The same goes for overworld encounters. In gen 3 when I encounter a Pokemon in the tall grass, my imagination gets to fill in what actually happened for my trainer to find that Pokemon and battle it. In gen 8 the imagination is replaced with an Excadrill retardedly wandering around in a field.

Overworld encounters in LGPE are fundamentally identical to random encounters because of how congested the maps are with spawns, never mind that they can literally pop up right under your feet as you're traveling.
Sure, you don't have to FIGHT them, but you're still going to have to encounter them one way or another.

Traditionally, when a developer fucks up the fans demand the game to be fixed and improved, or something far better to come out in the future.

Even Dragon Quest dropped random encounters, at least on land. You're holding attachment to something because you think it's tradition but not because it's good player experience.
