>>45751172Water isn't bad, but they didn't really make much use of it. Hoenn's land is fairly versatile, the water portions less so - at least in proportion to the massive space. They could have done more in style of islands, different water levels, boats, giant sea creatures, caves, and so on. Although, despite all this, the water routes occasionally do carry hidden things in plain sight which is really cool. It just sucks it all looks the same and makes the game less enjoyable, especially due to the lack of diversity when it comes to Pokemon and trainers.
Nothing's stopping them from adding trainers that surf on Pokemon to make the enemies carry different types of monsters. And nothing's stopping them from simply adding different types of Pokemon through particular scenarios.
Like, hell, they could have had geodudes floating in the water, passing by the trainer. If you touch them, press a button, it could have triggered a fight with a half-dead one for example. Coulda used an explanation such as an exploding volcano that spurt them on it, who the hell knows.
Furthermore, Ghosts could have had their own graveyard-esque ocean instead of another tower... with darker water, fossils, ships and so on.
Could've even had Machokes nearby Victory Road, who apparently go for a swim to steel their bodies.
