They've also proven they can patch in content with the DLCs, too, so it wouldn't be another XY/ORAS scenario where SWSH is fully incompatible with the next game, or else they'd be cannibalizing the Switch's mainline Pokemon games.
Unless they were to make Let's Go Johto, which, while a core game, isn't a mainline game, thus meaning they don't have to give a flying fuck about compatibility, especially if it's the same model touchups and rendering as LGPE before it.
