I just cannot see that this is the generation where they didn't even try to improve anything, the generation where they ditched gyms, made a pretty unorthodox and, in my humble opinion, an interesting region with solid worldbuilding and design. That this legacy got messed up through excessive handholding and thus a shitty plot is another discussion.
>>45763541Gen 6 in total were rushed as fuck, XY are the only games Kalos could ever be visited, and it's evident that they were at the very least planning for a more polished experience in some successive game which they had to ditch for SM and the 20th anniversary. Furthermore, XY didn't carry over a lot of additions of B2W2 which are staples in other franchises for decades such as difficulty settings which I think is a bit more fundamental than the removal of the day/night cycle in Gen 3. That said, these were the first 3D games that, in my view, had a lot of charm or at least tried to evoke it, so I can overlook some missteps willingly.
