Hatterenes aren't evil, it's that in wild ones strong emotions causes severe distress and they don't know how to handle it aside from silencing the source of it. In a tamed one with a good trainer, though, they can learn to overcome this and thus strong emotions or loud noises become more of annoyances than murder-inducing-rage-headaches.
